Michael Eddy is a McDonough resident and Principal at Smith-Barnes Elementary in Stockbridge. As a member of Smith-Barnes Elementary team, he is very proud to be associated with an outstanding school that has served Stockbridge for over fifty years. In the six years prior to his appointment as principal Mike served the students and citizens of Henry County as the Fine Arts and Title I Coordinator.  He spent his time as a school system coordinator advocating for the Henry County arts programs and assisting area schools in becoming Title I Distinguished Schools under the No Child Left Behind Law. Prior to joining Henry County Schools, Mike was band director at Forest Park High School and Jonesboro High School.

Mike began his higher education at Stetson University in Deland, Florida, where he received a Bachelors degree in Music Education. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Educational Administration from the State University of West Georgia and is currently in the process of completing his Doctorate in Education from The University of Georgia, where he is a proud member of the Bulldog Nation.

From 2003-2006, Mike served on the Henry County Zoning Advisory Board as the District IV representative.  While serving on the board, he spent two years as Vice-Chairman and Chairman making important decisions about the county’s growth. During this period of time, the Zoning Board began the process of examining the Future Land Use Map and the Unified Land Development Code. Mike is a long time Republican.  He attends Community Bible Church, where he performs with the orchestra. Mike also performs with the Tara Winds Community Band and stays very active in school music programs across the southeastern United States. Additionally, Mike is a charter member of the newly formed McDonough Civitan Club and is a third degree member of The Knight’s of Columbus Council #10671.  When not working at Smith-Barnes, on the UGA campus, or here in the community, Mike can be found at home with his wife Shirley, five-year-old daughter Madeleine, and three-year-old son Reagan. Shirley is a stay-at-home mom and recently began her own business, Peppermint Pickles, selling handmade children’s clothing.  Mike’s father, James, is a retired police detective and resides in Florida with his mother, Sharon. 

Mike’s campaign is focusing on quality of life for Henry County citizens. His campaign will address issues of economic development, public safety, environmental protectionfuture land use, transportation, and cultural activities. Above all, Mike believes the sustainability of our community is paramount!
