Land Use is one of the key issues for the future of Henry County. At a recent event Mike was asked about his thoughts on land use, Mike replied that "...we are not making any more land, so we have to make smart decisions." While on the Zoning Advisory Board, Mike worked hard to ensure that every recommendation that he made was an informed and educated decision. Land Use dictates a great deal about our community, everything from population to future services. Mike believes that we need to implement a smart comprehensive plan that when adopted, will be followed. The plan is what our elected officials have promised our citizens would happen in their community. The plans that Henry County creates and adopts should be considered non-negotiable. The Board of Commissioners should adopt the practice that if a proposed rezoning does not meet the current land use map or the future land use map, it should not be considered. Henry County tax payers have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into this process and if the plan is not followed then we will have wasted every penny!
Over the next several months, Mike will be commenting on the proposed future land use map (FLUM) and the unified land development code (ULDC). Be sure to ask questions of our commissioners while this process continues. The FLUM and ULDC are crucial to our future. When the Atlanta Regional Commission has compiled staffs' recommendation for the Henry County Plan, then citizens will again have the opportunity for public comment to the Board of Commissioners.
