SPLOST:

SPLOST funding remains a constant issue for Henry County.  In most cases, projects are completed at almost twice the estimated cost.  Tax payers have previously approved two SPLOST collections and yet projects remain incomplete. Recently Mike was speaking with homeowners about the latest SPLOST and in his own words he said, "SPLOST is a lot like the character Oliver, coming back to the BOC and asking, Excuse me sir, but may I have some more." Given our current transportation issues, Mike believes that more SPLOST money should be directed toward transportation costs.  Furthermore, he believes that funding should not be split up among each district, but to fund projects county wide.   The one cent sales tax is levied to cover all projects and the recommended priority list from HCDOT should be followed to address current and future transportation needs.

Mike agrees that parks are an important element in our quality of life, however SPLOST funding should not be used for parks. Funding for parks should come from the impact fees that were initiated and approved by the BOC in 2004.  In lieu of the park improvements in SPLOST III, these funds should be diverted to transportation needs.
